PCOS - Update

New update with my PCOS - I started taking a pill called Metformin.

Metformin is a type of drug known as an 'insulin-sensitising agent', which lowers the blood sugar level, in turn reducing the excessively high insulin. There are actually very few studies that have been carried out and published concerning the use of insulin sensitising drugs as a treatment for PCOS. These suggest that it may well be useful in several areas: helping weight reduction, improving irregular periods (70%), normalising blood cholesterol and leading to ovulation.

I have to take one pill for the first week. On Friday I have to start taking 2 pills and then the Friday after that I have to take 3 pills. Each pill is 500g. So in total I'll be taking 1500g of Metformin daily.

The first day I took the pill I got the attack of the shakes and it was really bad. I went shopping and that's when I noticed the shaking. I also thought I was going to be sick right in the middle of ASDA. The next couple of days were ok but on Monday things were different. I spent most of the day on the toilet and I've felt like crap ever since.

The most common side effects during treatment are diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal bloating.

I have two of those so far. I've been told these side effects will last between 1 to 4 weeks and I should start seeing results in about 3 to 4 months. It's only the first week and I'm starting to lose hope already. Oh and it's made my bleeding really heavy. More heavy than before. I have to see my doctor again in 3 weeks time to see how things are getting on. I'm also really hungry!! I've not been eating much because I dont like the side effects. Which isnt smart on my part, I know. I'll keep you updated.

I'd like again to encourage women who think they have any symptoms of PCOS as stated in this post to go see a doctor so you can start treatment. Please dont suffer in silence!

Blogging Play

One of the reasons I decided to get this going again was because of something I watched on TV. In the mornings, in the UK, there's a show called This Morning. I'm never normally up to watch it but the past few days I have. Today, they had an interview with a guy who's written a play about situations people have blogged about. If you dont believe me, you can read about it here.

This guy has surfed UK blogs and come up with 10 characters for his play (5 actors playing double roles). One character is an agraphobic sex chatline operator.
The play, called Bloggers - Real Internet Diaries, premieres next month at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland and will be shown daily at 3.10pm, Smirnoff Underbelly, Edinburgh (3rd - 27th August). There's also a site about the play, which can be read here.

Makes me wonder if I had posted about some weird stuff, would my stories have been part of the play? lol Highly doubtful. I think I might even take a trip down to Edinburgh to go watch this play. It's a 3 hour journey and maybe it wouldnt be worth it, but you have to look at it like this...Maybe it would be worth it and even if it isnt, it's a day away from boring Aberdeen. I'm gonna look into this. What do you all think?

I don't normally do this..

I read a blog called The Jammy Blog. It's brilliant..you should all go and read it from time to time (link at the right hand side)..

Plugs

Every so often, when I have nothing to really post about, I plug some sites. I've plugged my partner in crime (although he'll deny any evil doing on his part and will maintain his innocence till the day he dies) and the one person who cracks me up with one liners... Anarchy's blog...Now it's the turn of rob.

Rob aka phobos shares a site with some old school friends and it's based on the group they formed at school called EvilCON. Some posts go way over my head because I'm basically stoopid but the intellectual/intelligent people of the net that happen to visit here from BE might find it of some interest (as I do but don't let rob know this!) You can check out the site by either clicking on EvilCON under the blogroll list or by clicking here! They were made famous by an article on New York Times and from what I know, or might be misguided into believing, they class themselves as nerds (which isnt a bad thing). Rob happens to be a good friend of mine, who I met online about 3 years ago and he's actually helped me get away from the n00b stage of using the internet. By n00b I mean stopped me typing like a fucking retard but I dont like to admit this.

Surfing and you find....

As most people know that when I get bored, I go surfing to see what cool stuff I can find. While trying to fend off Pyper from attacking her biscuit box (which is sitting beside the computer), I came across some cool blogs. Well, one I found a couple of weeks ago and only took a closer look yesterday. The Jammy Blog is one I found first and lastnight, me and rach read almost all of it. While doing this, I came across Dog Eat Doug. I've linked them both at the side so you folks can have a good look and I highly suggest you do take a closer look.
